Meet The Team
Gem Caranay, CEO/Head of Marketing

I started working online in 2005 as a writer and market researcher and I got my first ever client via Friendster. Yes! you read that right! I helped my clients solve their challenges in growing their businesses by doing research for them and creating business and marketing plans.
​
Way back in 2009, I worked as a Virtual Assistant for a client that has a coaching company.
He has been looking for someone who is cost-effective, reliable, highly skilled, and great to work with. I assisted him with endless and repetitive tasks to drive growth in his business.
​
The demand for my service increased, and my clients were happy about their experience of working with me and referred me to their friends, colleagues, and wider networks.
​
Come the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020, many Filipinos lost their jobs. In my mission to help those who need career opportunities online, I gathered a handful of freelancers to train and teach them how to get started to work as VAs. Then match them with clients across Australia, Europe, and the US.
​
This is the start of my journey in the outsourcing business. With over a decade of experience in the industry, I saw an opportunity in the market to offer outsourced staff directly to businesses and thus, Outsourcing Gem was born.

For almost 20 years in the outsourcing industry, I have experienced what it’s like to start from the bottom and end up on top. It’s been quite a journey and through this journey, I have dealt and done business with outsourcing professionals from all walks of life and from different backgrounds. The experience, I can say, is one that is wonderful, since I was able to know people and made lasting relationships with some of them, and colorful at the same time since the number of people I have dealt with really exposed me to individuals whom I can say is from the different areas of the color spectrum in terms of their personality and what they required from me and my group in that point in time. In spite of all the differences and the myriad of so-called colors I was dealing with, the common variable among them is service and the need for us to serve each and every one of them, from the simplest of individuals to the complex numbers needed to be hit by corporate entities. This is what I have been doing for almost two decades now, providing no less than excellent service and what our clients require.

My job is to make sure our group will continue to deliver the same quality and level of service to all our clients that were, is, and will be part of this journey.
Joan Somera, Operations
I was hired as a Marketing Officer in an Agriculture Company based here in the Philippines. There, I was able to explore different sides of Marketing such as Sales, Demand Generation and Digital Marketing. I started my freelancing journey with a US-based Advertising Agency where I was able to work as a Facebook Ads Manager and then as a Marketing Assistant of a Business Coach. With these jobs, I was able to expand more of my knowledge not only with Digital Marketing but also with the other sides of the virtual assistance world.
